To this day, I can't recall a time when I've heard "Ex-President Bush" or "Ex-President Clinton" by the media or general public. So, why is mass media NOW trying to change the way Barack Obama is addressed post-presidency?
President Barack Obama is his title and name, forevermore.
All United States presidents before Obama have never been systematically coined "former president" prior to announcing his name. However, whenever you spot Barack Obama in headlines, his well-earned, lifetime title seems a bit skewed by the constant in-your-face "past tense-ery" that mass media journalists tend to slide to the forefront — whether intentional or unintentional.
But For all Intents And Purposes, Miss Me With That Bulls**t
People talk about missing President Obama and how there will never be another like him. Yet, they still don't give him the respect he deserves.
But then while supposedly loathing Donald Trump, journalists — even those of whom he deems "fake news" — go out of their way to ensure it's "President Trump" in the headlines.
A lot of them didn't even do that when Obama was president.
Nevertheless, it's almost as if the same energy is exerted just to ensure "Former/Ex-President Obama" is the phrase of the day.
Sometimes, I wonder if those "closed media meetings" conducted by Trump had anything to do with this particular title shift. As it seems, many collectively believe that Donald Trump's keen focus has been only to undo what President Obama did while in office.
In case you're wondering why I'm not addressing Trump as "president" — as Robert Reich mentions via a recent video — Donald hasn't exhibited any presidential traits via his conduct, actions, commentary, ideas, or concerns.
United States presidents have an ability to govern — even if it's governing their mouths or Twitter fingers. And that's simply something Donald Trump has not done in his first year as acting leader.

Fellow Journalists, How About We Get This Title Thing Right?
Let's put it down for the record. As concerns the media, all presidents before Barack Obama have always retained their titles post-presidency.
So, let's not start changing things up by using President Obama as the guinea pig of subtle propagandist tactics.
Given this time in America, we need to hang on to whatever sliver of moral fiber that still exists within our governmental leadership. Because, seriously — right now — the United States' image does not look pleasant from the world's perspective.
Hell, it doesn't look pleasant domestically either.
