Allyson Felix pregnant? Not anymore. She's welcomed her new baby daughter into the world, and the public knew absolutely nothing about it. Now, she comes forth with the "scary" details regarding her child's birth.
It's true. Allyson Felix's daughter, Camryn, is here among us. For a whole seven months, Allyson, pregnant as the sky is blue, hid her daughter from the world, allowing no detail to leak to the press. ESPN reports that Felix is "the most decorated woman track and field star in U.S. Olympic history." With such a title, it's amazing she was able to keep her pregnancy completely covert.
In a self-penned explanation to ESPN, Allyson Felix says she knows that people think she's fallen off, as concerns her career. But that's simply not the case.
I knew what they were thinking. Is this is it [sic]? Is she hurt again? She looks tired.
Allyson says even her coach, Bobby Kersee, was concerned and considered sitting her down for a season. Likewise, her brother and agent, Wes Felix, had similar issue with her "slowness."
But, she says she can laugh about the secretive situation now. It's public information, and she's glad to share her story with the world. Yet, that wasn't the case last month. Things had gotten a little scary for the athlete.

But before we jump into that, let's discuss how she, first, broke the news to her family and coach. You know, so they'd know she wasn't just losing her touch.

Allyson Felix's Pregnancy Truth Comes Forth

"It was time to tell them what was really going on," Allyson states. "I'm pregnant."

Felix says her brother was excited for her, as well as relieved she was "not just slow." That was when she was only eight weeks along in her pregnancy though.
I thought I could keep the news to myself and my husband, Kenneth, for a little longer, that I'd still be winning races as long as I trained hard. I mean, Serena Williams won the Australian Open early in her pregnancy. If I had enough willpower, I should be able to do the same.
NOPE!...

There came a point where she had to sit it down, for real. However she says, while she wanted to share her news with the world ... especially those who have supported her for so many years, Allyson Felix admits she also felt her pregnancy would disappoint her fans, those who expect her to always put running as priority. The athlete's fans certainly couldn't tell from Felix's Instagram page, that's for sure.

"I was only showing people what I was ready to share at that point," Allyson says in her letter. "But I think if you go look back and read a lot of what I wrote now, knowing what was really behind those posts, you'll see and hear the real me."

On November 18, she mentioned as follows via Instagram.
entering my 33rd year braver, stronger and empowered. learning it's okay to allow myself to be vulnerable. creating space to be me, loving the journey i am on and the woman i am becoming. passionate about my craft. unapologetic about the big goals i still have left to accomplish- regardless of who believes in me. understanding where my worth & value comes from- even if this world forces me to need a reminder. experiencing God's love like never before. embracing this next chapter & truly believing it will be my best yet [sic]
According to Allyson, she actually had everything planned out: her announcement, her outfit for the announcement, the story, etc. But then, "everything changed," Felix mentions.

She says there was swelling in her ankles, but she thought it was normal since she was in her third trimester. "Then the doctors told me my daughter was measuring a little small on her latest ultrasound," Allyson writes. "Still nothing to worry about."

But when she went for her 32-week checkup, the situation was a bit different. According to Felix, the doctor left her on the fetal monitor for over an hour. She says, any other time, it had been a quick "in and out" type of appointment.

'You Need To Go Now ... Right Now ...'

According to Allyson Felix, the doctor calmly advised her to go to a hospital to get check out. However, the athlete had a photo shoot planned for that day, and asked if it were okay to go afterward. The doctor reportedly responded, "No, you need to go now...right now."
"I immediately called my husband to let him know this was serious, and he should leave work and rush to the hospital," Allyson noted. "I called my brother Wes and told him we needed to cancel the shoot. He asked why and I didn't know what to say. I couldn't believe this was happening."
Yet, once Felix arrived at the hospital, she knew something was "very wrong."

"My blood pressure was way too high," Allyson mentions. "The baby's heart rate was decelerating. This was dangerous for both of us and if it didn't improve soon, I was going to have to deliver her by emergency C-section within 48 hours."

She said, in that moment, nothing else mattered to her but the health and well-being of her daughter. "I didn't care if I ever ran track again," Felix writes in the letter.

The thing I remember most about the November 28 surgery is that I barely got to see her face or hear her cry. They whisked her to the NICU as soon as she came out. She was 3 pounds, 7 ounces and 16 inches long.
She says, for the entirety of the first night, she only got to see her daughter for about 10 minutes. "I was having issues with my blood pressure so they wouldn't let me walk," Allyson states.
"I couldn't sleep because I was so worried about her. And I still couldn't believe any of this was happening. Honestly, I still can't."
All in all, little Camryn is okay, according to mother Allyson. However, each day is scary since her daughter is going to be in the hospital for a while.

"Every day that I'm there, it's scary," Felix elaborates. "The monitors are always beeping. All the parents are on edge. Sometimes babies that young just stop breathing and have to figure out how to start again. These little babies are fighting for their lives every second of the day. But they're finding a way to keep going and it's so inspiring."

Will Allyson Felix Return To The Track In 2020?

According to the runner's letter, that's still very much her plan. She intends on returning to the track and giving it all she's got.

However...

"If I come back and I'm just not the same, if I can't make a fifth Olympic team, I'm gonna know that I fought, that I was determined, and that I gave it my absolute all," Allyson Felix explains regarding her pending return. "And if it doesn't end up the way I imagined in my head, it'll be OK. I just have to go for it, because that's just simply who we are now."
Whatever happens, we're proud of you, Allyson. You've never disappointed your fans. And no matter your decision, you won't disappoint us now either. Stay strong, Mama. You've got this.
